Co-signing and leasing?

Okay so my husband and I are splitting. He signed a lease with me on an apartment even though he's not going to be living there. What rights would he have to the apartment if I had him switch to only being a co-signer on it? I'm sick of him always being in control of me and don't want him to have any rights to me or my place that my kids and I are going to be living in. Thanks
