Should I dismember my friend?

He hasnt turned up in weeks. When I created the reading club I made a few months back, we have around 8 or 9 members at the time. I buy the same books for each of the members that come. All of them are loyal to the club and turn up every fortnight. Since then we have grown to about 20 people, none of them have missed a day, except for my friend. I dont think he can be bothered with it any more, and I dont want to waste any more money buying another copy that no one will use, and Im confused as to whether or not I should buy an extra copy (for him) when the group starts reading and talking about another book/novel. Ive known him for a long time and I dont want to be harsh or fall out with him, it might hurt his feelings.
