Its called jealousy! You did the right thing to tell your friend that she was being talked about behind her back. "Jay" must think Ariel is either prettier or something and didn't want to have any competition so she just started rumors about people who she thought were better then her. I would not go around "Jay" anymore if shes a jerk.
